Description générée automatiquementA WALLET, A DOLLAR AND THE EXISTENCE OF GOD

Take a look at that photo and let me tell you why I believe what I believe. Can you tell me how this dollar got in the wallet, without mentioning anything outside the wallet ?

Clearly a dollar bill is an amazing object as it contains so much details, specific drawings, numbers and words. It contains markings that convey information, and you can’t but agree with me that information requires an intelligence mind not only to place the markings in a meaningful way but also to interpret and understand what these markings mean. So the dollar is clearly the product of an intelligent mind, it has been designed by human intelligence.

So now, let’s talk about how the dollar got into the wallet. I know you are inclined to say the obvious : someone put it in the wallet. This is the very best explanation, but remember that our rules here won’t allow this answer.  It must come from the inside of the wallet.

How did the dollar get into the wallet if it was not placed there by someone or something outside of the wallet ? There is only two options: either the dollar has always been in the wallet and is as old as the wallet. Or it formed over time, evolving from more primitive materials that were in the wallet to begin with.

But let’s face it, neither of these two answers make any sense. You and I know that wallets don’t come from the store with money in them and that small pieces of paper just don’t happen to come together with all the details and complexity of the dollar.

What does this have to do with the existence of God ? Well, with this simple illustration, we are describing the problem that atheists, naturalists and materialists have when they try to explain how life began in our universe.

How does matter come from non matter ? How does life come from non life ? How does information appear in the DNA code if there is no intelligence behind the code ? If we force ourselves to stay inside the natural realm, we have to conclude that the matter and life we see in the universe has either always been here or has evolved over time from lesser base elements. It’s just like the dollar : if we have to stay inside the wallet for an answer, there are only a couple of possibilities, which are pretty lame and don’t really satisfy us.

Science has given us lots of evidence to show that the universe had a beginning, calling it the « Big Bang ». We know that matter in the universe is not infinitely old and that life in the universe appeared even more recently.

But how did the universe itself get here ? If the universe had a beginning, then it makes sense that it had a « Beginner » who must have come from outside the universe. And if life evolved from other base materials, how did these base materials come into existence in the first place ? How does something, even something very basic and primitive in nature, come from nothing ?

Could the most satisfying answer for how our highly designed dollar bill appeared in the wallet be that someone or something put it there ? It is crazy to limit our answers to sources that are inside the wallet. We should at least allow the possibility that the answer may be outside the wallet.

In a most similar way, it seems to me that the most unbiased science would also respect the possibility that the supernatural realm outside the natural order might be the source for all the matter and life we see in the universe.

I believe in the existence of an all powerful first cause Creator outside the natural realm because it is the best and most reasonable piece of evidence.  The universe had a beginning, someone put the dollar in that wallet.
